Novelty of the Games – competitions for the disabled

The Organizers of the 5th TAFISA World Sport For All Games invite all disabled people to participate in global festival of sports and to pit their strength against others in various competitions – wheelchair basketball, beach volleyball, darts, bocce, showdown (table tennis for the blind). It is something new in the history of TAFISA Games.
Kęstutis Petraitis, the Director of the Games, says that it will be the first TAFISA World Sport For All Games, the program of which includes sports for disabled people. “Our aim is to encourage as many people as possible to live more actively, do sports, feel the ardour of competition and joy of participations,” – says K. Petraitis. “International Games are held in Šiauliai traditionally, and disabled people are also invited to take part in. Therefore, when we were entitled to organize global TAFISA event, we have immediately proposed to include the most popular sports for the disabled into the program of the Games as well. This initiative was particularly appreciated and accepted by the International Sport For All Association, TAFISA.”
Deimantas Jusys, the Deputy Director of Siauliai City School of Physical Education, coordinating the organization of competitions for the disabled, which will be held during the Games, says that the example of disabled athletes and their skills shown during the competitions inspire other and demonstrate that, despite everything, the way to sport and even international achievements remains    open.
The Organizers note, that the registration for the Games is going on until May 1st. Registration forms for participants, information about competitions, accommodation conditions are available on the website of the Games www.siauliai2012.lt. The disabled will get 50% concession applied on registration fee and accommodation expenses. 
The program of the 5th TAFISA World Sport For All Games includes traditional sports, demonstrative sports, competitions for disabled people, championships, demonstration of national sports, music, cultural events, scientific conferences and seminars. 
The Organizers have already received confirmations from delegations of more than 40 countries, which will arrive to the Games.
It is expected that TAFISA Games, which will be held in the entire Northern region of Lithuania – Šiauliai, Akmenė, Joniškis, Kelmė, Radviliškis, Pakruojis – will give impetus to business, contribute to the increasing of awareness of the region and Lithuania, and promote people live healthier and more actively.
